Wknd 49 Wood Green Tunnel – CRSA

A very productive weekend was spent by our track gangs
working for our client Balfour Beatty on the Central Rail Systems Alliance
weekend possession at Wood Green Tunnel. This was a challenging 400 yard single
line core renewal on the East Coast main line, whilst utilising the Kirow crane
for the removal and installation of single line track panels.

CRS track teams were on hand carrying out a variety of tasks, including..

  • Removal of 60ft track panels, utilsing small
    plant rail saws
  • Working in collaboration with Ontrack Plant and
    technical staff
  • Installation of IBJ & closure rails
  • Formation of ballast works in preparation for
    tamping
  • Ballast configuration post worksite tamp

Working in a confined tunnel is always a challenge,
particularly with the presence of dust/ heavy plant exhaust fumes during the
removal of panels, excavation and subsequent distribution of track ballast.
Good practices were observed in regards to dust suppression with the attendance
of the Manta Rail Thunderbird 11 on site providing the tunnel ventilation,
which ensured compliance of air quality.

A great weekend to all involved!
